Equi-Feeds was established in 1994 by Scott Millar who identified a need for a dedicated horse feed supplier. Based in Fisantekraal, on the outskirts of Cape Town, South Africa, the business has since grown and in 2000 opened a second plant in Durban in order to meet the growing demand of the regional market.
Equi-Feeds specialises in horse feed but also produces a wide range of animal feeds alongside, where the ingredients are just as horse friendly as the horse feed itself.
Horse Feeds
Equi-Feeds’ range of products caters for three specific categories namely the race training market, which is professional horse racing; the second is the stud breeding market; and the third is the sport and leisure market.
The wide range of feeds offered by Equi-Feeds has been formulated to meet the specific nutritional requirements for each of these disciplines. Equi-Feeds draws on many years of experience and most importantly on what our customers ask for to produce the finest range of scientifically balanced nutritional feeds in the country today. Proof is in the ever increasing list of accolades and awards its customers achieve.
Distributing to Markets
Equi-Feeds is a privately owned company that delivers directly to local markets covering a span of 150 kilometers and through the use of own depots and strategically placed distributors to deliver nationally. Equi-Feeds also supplies into the Middle East, West and East Africa and Mauritius.
To reduce the cost of distribution and handling of key raw materials Equi-Feeds has invested in its own transport fleet of specialised vehicles.
Quality Assurance
In 2013 the Cape Town factory was certified by the SABS as ISO 9001 compliant. By implementing this internationally recognised quality management system Equi-Feeds has committed to improving and investing in quality management in both of its manufacturing plants. It also uses NIR technology to analyse all incoming raw materials and manufactured feeds to ensure adherence to nutritional specification.
Investing in Quality
Equi-Feeds has invested in and has access to various specialised technologies including using micronised grain to improve the digestibility of the product and improve the quality. It has also acquired the rights to a similar roasting technology in order to cook soya - which enables the production to remain at the highest standards of quality.
